Kolasin
Kolasin is a historic town in northern Montenegro. It is located at the foot of the Bjelasica and Sinjajevina mountains and rests at an altitude of 954m. Due to its position and climate, the city is considered an air spa.
It was a small village until Turks raised a fortress in the middle of the 17th century. After a fierce fight over the region, the Ottoman Empire lost its hold on the region. Kolasin officially became part of Montenegro in 1878.
It has since developed into one of Montenegro’s main centers of mountain tourism. It is relatively easy to reach by road or rail in comparison to Zabljak. In addition to the surrounding peaks and valleys, the Kolasin municipality also borders Biogradska Gora National Park.
Today is very well connected with rest of country due to recent construction of first highway in Montenegro. Ideal for both summer and winter vocation. Summer time is great for hikes up to Bjelasica and Sinjajevina mountain, also for doing jeep safari and quad rides. Winter is reserved for skying, since this is Montenegro’s most modern sky reasort!
On our tours we tend to visit Kolasin only on multy-day tours when the aim is to cover entire country. We love doing the hike from Biogradska Gora National Park up to Bendovac view point. From there we can enjoy the views of entire Bjelasica and Sinjajevina region. Our clients love the stop in local so called katuns, where we get to sample local traditional food.
