Kolašin

Kolašin is a historic town in northern Montenegro. It is located at the foot of the Bjelasica and Sinjajevina mountains and rests at an altitude of 954m. Due to its position and climate, the city is considered an air spa.

Kolašin was a small village until Turks raised a fortress in the middle of the 17th century. After a fierce fight over the region, the Ottoman Empire lost its hold on the region. Kolašin officially became part of Montenegro in 1878.

Kolašin has since developed into one of Montenegro’s main centers of mountain tourism. It is relatively easy to reach by road or rail in comparison to Žabljak. In addition to the surrounding peaks and valleys, the Kolašin municipality also borders Biogradska Gora National Park.
