Northern part of Montenegro is like another state. There are huge cultural, religious and natural differences within Montenegro, that we could easily divide country in 3 regions. What is typical for this part of Montenegro is that this is the region of some of the highest mountains within the country: Durmitor, Prokletije, Komovi and Bjelasica. Durmitor is mountain with highest peak in Montenegro, Bobotov Kuk 2523m. Two sky resorts are found in the north, in Zabljak(Durmitor National Park) and Kolasin(Bjelasica mountain- partly Biogradska Gora National Park). Three out of 5 National Parks of Montenegro are in north(Biogradska Gora, Durmitor and Prokletije mountains).

When it comes to cultural and religion aspects this area had very turbulent past. Major muslim population within Montenegro is in the north, since this area was ruled by the Ottomans for almost full 4 centuries. There are old mosques which are witnessing Ottoman period but also dominant religion and culture of north. We also find some medieval monasteries, like the one close to Berane, Djurdjevi Stupovi from mid 13 century.

That said this region and Montenegro as whole can be very proud of relations and coexistence of different cultures and religions within tiny territory.
