Plužine

Pluzine , Montenegro’s youngest town, sits on the shores of Piva Lake. Town is located in northern Montenegro, close to the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Modern town was built in its current location in 1975 after the construction of the Piva Hydro Power Plant and Reservoir submerged the Old Town.

You will find that Pluzine is surrounded by natural beauty. These are including the peaks of Durmitor, and Volujak, and Ledenica. Such proximity to nature creates a unique feeling. Local attractions include Piva Lake, and the Piva River, and Piva Monastery.

Most of the tourists who are visiting this town, they do it for two major reasons: Whitewater rafting activity in Tara river canyon and Piva Monastery with Piva lake.

Piva Monastery is one of the most visited and most important monasteries in Montenegro. There is a lovely story about how locals moved the monastery stone by stone from original to new location, since original monastery was on spot which was about to be under lake after construction of dam. We will leave that story for tour.

Tara river canyon is deepest and longest canyon of Europe, and one of the top attractions in Montenegro. White water rafting is done on few different points of the canyon, but by far best starting point is Pluzine. Pluzine is actually where canyon ends and Tara merges with Piva. In this specific part of canyon there are more rapids and whitewater rafting is way more adventures than in othre parts.
